Pin (Perforate Invaginate) Stripping of Varicose Veins
Varicose veins may be surgically removed by any one of several methods. The process of PIN stripping of the larger abnormal superficial veins has several advantages over the widely practiced methods of vein stripping. PIN stripping technique involves stripping the vein into itself in a manner similar to turning a stocking.
Description:Results patients were recruited into the study, with 68 patients per group. Blood-loss, operating time and length of vein stripped were measured intraoperatively. Number and size of haematoma, bruising and diameter of thrombosed channel were assessed one week post-operatively. The patients that completed a daily diary for seven days also showed no difference between pain or mobility following their operation see Table 2. All patients underwent a standard pre-operative assessment comprising a full clinical assessment, duplex ultrasound scan and photoplethysmography. Informed consent was given.
